Channa dal dosa

My hubby is a huge fan of masala vada. Have soaked channa dal for the vada, but could not make it up for the day. So I grinded the channa dal (soaked) with rice and toor dal, it turned out to be very yummy dosa recipe. And I thought of sharing the recipe with you all.

I used to prepare parrupu dosa with rice and toor dal or with all kinds of dals mixed together as a rich protein pack. But it also good to have these kinds of dosa once in a while. The more the twist we bring in the recipe it of course intrigues the passion for cooking !!!.

Channa Dal dosa

Ingredients:

Channa dal - 11/2 cup
Toor dal- 1/4 cup
Raw rice-1/2 cup
Garlic- 2 cloves
red chilies- 1 big
Cumin seeds- 1 tbsp
Salt- as required
Oil - little for dosa

Method:

Soak the channa dal along with rice and toor dal for 4 hours

Grind the soaked dals and rice with garlic + red chilies + cumin seeds and salt. Pour water and make sure it grinds smoothly with the consistency of dosa batter.

Heat the iron griddle, check by sprinkling some water on the griddle. If it evaporates the moment it is sprayed, it is good to start dosa preparation

Take a ladle of  batter, pour it on the griddle. Smooth the batter using the back cup shaped portion of the ladle. Make sure it is flat and thin in a circular shape.

Pour oil on the sides of dosa. Once it is cooked on one side, flip it and cook on both sides.

If you want, you can add finely cut onion, curry leaves and cilantro to the batter before cooking. I skipped this step since I use the same for parrupu dosa and wanted to show the difference.

This goes well with idly podi or any thugayal.

Tapioca Roti

Sago or sabhudana or Tapioca is rich starchy food, also a very cute white color bead. My mom used to make sago payasams and pachadi. In Tamil Nadu it is called as Javvarisi. This recipe is very different and the unique ingredients like raw potato made me curious.
This tickled my mind in trying out this recipe, I want to share this recipe with you.

Thanks to Redchilies.us for sharing this wonderful recipe.

Ingredients:

Sabhudana or Tapioca : 1 1/2 cup
Potato -2 medium sized
Peanuts - 1/2 cup
Rice  flour - 1/4 cup
Oil - as required for roti preparation
Salt- as required

Seasoning:

Curry leaves -  a few
Coriander leaves - a handful
Italian seasoning - 2 tbsp

Method:

Soak sabhudana after washing in running water for 3-4 hours.

Then strain it using a strainer ( make sure water gets completely drained). Peel and grate the potatoes and keep it aside. Dry roast ground nut, remove the skin and break it into rough pieces.

Add the grated potatoes and broken groundnuts and all the ingredients under seasoning with salt and mix well.

Add the rice flour and mix it. Now try making a ball out of the mixture.

Heat the griddle and place the ball. Gently press after dipping hand in water or sprinkle some water. Be careful, your fingers may get burned. So don't try making a thin one, it can be thick.

After it gets cooked for 1 minute add oil around the corners and wait until one side gets brown. Once it gets brown the corner gets lifted.
Take and flip on the other side and wait until it gets cooked. This takes more time to cook and make sure to place the heat on medium-low.

Enjoy with coconut chutney, tomato chutney or any other chutney of your choice !!!

Thanks for reading !!!

See you soon with another yummy recipe :)
